The worst thing that can happen to a magnetic drain plug, is for the magnet to come out of the plug. When the engine gets to operating temperature the plug expands faster than the magnet......add a little vibration and the magnet works it's way out, eventually. They never go back in.

The day before I arrived at Cycle Solutions in Daytona a previous customer came in for a full service oil change.....all the fluids.

When he previously had DIMPLE oil plugs installed earlier in the year, the stock transmission drain plug magnet was missing!!!!!  And the customer complained that for no reason at all, third gear had had a click, click, click as in a broken tooth.

Now it hurts enough, when you break your own tooth.....but to break a tooth in your tranny, well that hurts a little closer to the heart, man.

Lo and behold, when he came in for this FULL SERVICE, taking out his transmission Dimple oil plug, there was the missing Harley magnet and the chipped tooth!!!!! The Dimple plug took hold of both of them and would not let go.....we cleaned the metal filings off so you can see the tooth and the magnet. Picture ........far right.

This is the Dry Sump plug directly below below the V in the Twin. For all Twin Cam engines 1999 and above.

Dimple "Black Hole" Oil filter magnets, 6 Pack.

There are some Harley Softail models 1999 and below that do not have a drain plug per se. They have a tube which extends down for easy access to drain your oil, just like all the Sportsters. To protect your engine oil from contaminants, we provide these 6 Powerful magnets that attach to the outside of your Harley oil filter. You place the magnets on the oil filter in a random position with the dimple facing outwards, which places the North Pole towards the oil. At the next oil change remove the magnets and put them on the new oil filter. Be amazed, when you cut open the used filter and see the circles of collected particles! You can use them on your oil filter even if you do have one of our drain plugs.....double the protection.
